The Tweed Valley Hospital is centrally located within the Tweed-Byron region at 771 Cudgen Road, Cudgen. Located close to the motorway and adjacent to Tweed Coast Road, the hospital is easily accessed by car and public transport.
The Tweed Valley Hospital will deliver a new state-of-the-art facility that has more beds and increased healthcare services to meet the current and future needs of the growing Tweed-Byron community. The project is one of the largest regional capital health investments funded entirely by the NSW Government in NSW history.
Find out what to expect during the Main Works of the Tweed Valley Hospital in our Main Works fact sheet. We outline what works will take place, site access points and operational hours, and the measures in place to ensure the safety of our team and the community throughout the construction of the new hospital.
Health Infrastructure is committed to improving and regenerating the vegetated areas on the Tweed Valley Hospital site that border the Coastal Wetlands, many of which are overgrown with non-native and noxious species.
We recognise that construction work has the potential to affect our neighbours and the local community. We’re committed to managing construction work on and around the new Tweed Valley Hospital site in accordance with requirements of the State Significant Development Consent for this Project, to protect the health and safety of the community, construction workers and the environment.
With up to 650 construction workers expected on-site each day at the peak of construction activity in 2021/22, the construction of the Tweed Valley Hospital will present many job opportunities. This includes opportunities for local subcontractors and suppliers across a range of roles and trades, as well as for those who are considering starting an apprenticeship or traineeship.
With early works underway on the Tweed Valley Hospital site, Health Infrastructure is progressing the application for the detailed design, construction and commissioning of the new hospital. Health Infrastructure lodged the Stage 2 State Significant Development planning application with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on Friday 27 September 2019. Learn more about the planning application process and SSD2.

The Tweed-Byron region is growing and changing. To ensure we can provide healthcare services that meet the needs of the local community, the way that healthcare services are delivered also needs to change.
The Tweed Valley Hospital project will be assessed under Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, consistent with other State Significant Development (SSD) projects. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Stage 1 SSD planning application for the new hospital has been lodged with the Department of Planning and Environment. The EIS is the first of two planning submissions for the Tweed Valley Hospital, and seeks approval for the hospital concept and consent to commence early and enabling works on the site.
The Health Administration Corporation (HAC) is acquiring land at 771 Cudgen Road, opposite Kingscliff TAFE for the new Tweed Valley Hospital. Once this land is acquired, HAC, through it's Health Infrastructure division, will undertake a number of immediate tasks to secure the site and ensure appropriate environmental control measures are in place. These works will provide an immediate benefit to the environmental area that is being preserved along the northern boundary of the Project Site and completion is targeted prior to the wet season. The term used for these activities is Preliminary Works.
An EIS is used to assess any potential environmental impacts of a major project to determine what mitigation measures should be implemented and inform the approval decision. The EIS is publicly exhibited for comment to ensure that feedback from the community, Tweed Shire Council and other government agencies is considered in the assessment process.
The Tweed Valley Hospital will deliver a major new referral hospital that will provide the health services required to meet the growing population needs of the Tweed-Byron region.
The NSW Government’s $582 million investment in the Tweed Valley will deliver a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital on a greenfield site, as well as interim upgrades at The Tweed Hospital. The Site Selection Summary Report is available by clicking the link above.
