Stakeholder consultation
The Environmental Impact Statement for the Stage 2 State Significant Development planning application was lodged with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on 27 September 2019 and the following public exhibition period closed on 8 November 2019.
Health Infrastructure reviewed all the community and government agency submissions received by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and produced a Response to Submissions Report in March 2020. This report was provided back to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to be considered as part of the overall review and determination of the application.
Where can I view the Environmental Impact Statement?
Although the public exhibition period has closed, the Environmental Impact Statement is still available to view electronically on the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s major projects website at
www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/major-projects
.
Where can I find out more about the State Significant Development planning process?
The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s website provides a guide to understanding how major projects are assessed in NSW. For more information, please visit their website

Community pop-ups
During the public exhibition period for the Stage 2 State Significant Development application, the project team visited locations throughout the Tweed-Byron region to provide the community with information.
Over 650 community members stopped by the stands to find out more about the new hospital and the planning approval process and how they could have their say.
This included stalls at a range of markets across the Tweed-Byron region as well as ‘pop-up’ stands at The Tweed Hospital, Murwillumbah District Hospital and Byron Central Hospital.
Community information session
The Tweed Valley Hospital Project Team held an information session on Monday 4 November 2019 to present the Stage 2 State Significant Development (SSD) application and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the new Hospital. In
attendance were local farmers and representatives of the Hospital’s Community Reference Panel.
